“Tracy’s tale so succinctly captures the contemporary lifestyle of young gay man in NY dealing with such issues as forming bonding friendships, rejection, online hookups, hangups with sexual role-playing and perceived masculinity in a culture that has moved on from being dominated by the AIDS crisis.
It is refreshingly warm, witty, extremely funny, with more than its share of sadness too.”
“You don’t have to be gay or male to know what it’s like going through the things Jamie encounters, processing what has happened to you and trying to come out the other end a better man. I really enjoyed this series and am hoping there will be more.”
“Not very often we have the occasion to encounter such a vast and well written plot, and frankly, this is all that we can care about right now.”
Fan Letters
“so i just binge watched every episode of History s1 & s2 and this is what I have to say...
BRAVO ... and thank you for sharing your work. There were times that I literally laughed out loud, felt sad and teared up, was reminded of my own past relationships and my circle of friends. You have a new fan in me and I look forward to seeing what else you create...”
“I watched your entire web series “History” last night via Amazon/Dekkoo.
I rarely write fan notes, but I wanted to tell you I appreciated it. ... You gave me a slice of life about that that felt very real. ... I googled you today, and History was based on your own breakup. It seems this kind of verisimilitude is often based on personal experience.
There’s so much pedagogical story-telling today, driven by making simple-minded ideological points. ... Thanks for giving me something *real*.”
“The first and best gay web series that doesn’t play itself as a silly sit-com with an occasional “gay issue”- If you like a series with real human inter-actions and relationships, gay characters that resemble people that you might actually know, three-dimensional characters that you like and dislike at the same time, stories about the foibles of friendship, hanging onto a relationship past the expiration date, genuine emotionally strong moments and bonus, an engaging story that slips into the past and present with intelligence. All this in 6 episodes, so glad that the 2nd Season is due in the fall. History is reason enough to get Dekkoo and then stick around for the rest of it’s unrivaled gay content.”
“This is powerful and emotional, and well done for a first-time writer/producer/director. The scenes are particularly powerful and convincing. NYC gay dating life and the friends that either support you or bring you down are huge themes in this film. This film raises the discussion of letting your walls down enough to let someone else in, which is a sensitive topic and not brought up often in film. The target audience is LGBTQ people and the people who love LGBTQ themed films. Overall I enjoyed the series and look forward to season 2.”
“[I was] deeply affected ... by some of the content: ... Your series validated me. ... In the same way that Jamie was searching for validation and security and had to recreate his identity when his relationship ended, I feel like watching your series this weekend helped validate that I am healthy and ok and just as confused as everyone else. That makes me feel a lot better.”
“Too much of gay cinema is driven by a desire to deliver simple-minded ideological points. I’d rather see slices of actual gay life, especially parts of it I wouldn’t experience myself like NYC hookup culture.
”History” delivers this. It rings true. It seems to capture some actual reality in its net.”
“Finally nice to see a webseries that deals with actual real life issues with real people instead of the normal “everything works out always” theme. Real life is messy and hard and this depicts that beautifully. Absolute must-see!!!!!!”
“Funny, meaningful and moving, this is a truly realistic slice of modern gay life in New York. There are some great lines & sensitive, thoughtful treatment of difficult topics - like the reality of hooking up and how it makes us feel.”
“Just became a subscriber to Dekkoo and watched all of the History episodes. Fantastic! Congrats on a job well done. I’m looking forward to Season 2!”
“This series was fantastic. Well written and well acted. Can’t wait for the 2nd Season!”
“A fresh breath of air! All too often this genre is filled with vacuous clichés, so it’s great to see realism with both the characters and their everyday struggles.”
“The show is so damned intelligent and I am so looking forward to watching more-”
“I really enjoyed it. I hope you make more episodes. Keep up the great work.”
